Julian  Escallon

Colombian born moved to Canada to fulfill his dreams of becoming independent. Struggling with many life’s challenges, Julian has overcome them, from learning a new language, to finding a job. On top of that, he constantly deals with the struggles that come from Down Syndrome. But he deals with this by creating art. He is a multi-talented person, whether it is music, photography or film making.
Love at first sight

It was at the age of one where his love for music began, from drums, to guitar playing at his birthdays with Pelusa y Filipan, it evolved into singing and sharing with many friends and groups his passion around music.
He remembers with nostalgia
  • Carlos Copaban and his group with Mateo, in Colombia
  • Participating in his school in the Xtravaganza show.
  • Playing, recording and presenting with BPM music with his friend Shawn Wludyka and
  • later until today with John Jowett, Key Artistic Director of Keys to the Studio jamming and performing with the group on a year event.
Julian composes and plays weekly with his close friend Joe Kelly.

MUSIC

From school to work

On December 2002 Julian became a student at Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary in Toronto, with no friends and no English
BUT
After 6 years he graduated from high school, he had made friends and won the “Yes I Can” award.
In this video he shares why it was important for him to go to school and grow to be a man.

From high school to work: My Coop placement

When Julian attended Marshall McLuhan, a co-op program gave him the opportunity to work, at first he was given tasks to take care of equipment during school performances, then went to help organize equipment from the TDCSB at a warehouse which later lead to him sending out his resume to work at the Air Canada Centre.

After graduation he handed his resume and was hired by Maple Leaf Sport and Entertainment where he unpacks and tags sports apparel, T-shirts, pants, caps, sweatpants, shoes: all sizes, all colors, all brands. He says “…costumers come to our store looking for the new merchandise that arrives with the logos of their favourite teams”

“ I love my job and believe that everyone has the right to work and be an independent person.  I hope to change these problems with my words and my music”
Medieval Times my inspiration

“I love Medieval Times. It was my inspiration for my first film which gives me experience for future plans”
